Don Pedi has been playing mountain dulcimer for more than five decades, shaped by both the 1960s folk revival and the traditional music of Western North Carolina, where he has lived since the 1970s. Inspired early on by Richard Fariña and later by traditional musicians including Doc Watson, Frank Proffitt, Mississippi John Hurt, and Almeda Riddle, Don became known for expanding the dulcimer’s role in Southern traditional and dance music. Now based in Madison County, North Carolina, he brings a lifetime of experience, deep knowledge of regional repertoire, and an intuitive feel for traditional style to his teaching.
