Baritone Dulcimer Explorations
6-week online class via Zoom, $150.00, limited to 8 students
11/1-12/6, 1-2:15 pm PST (2pm MST, 3pm CST, 4pm EST)
It’s time to explore our Baritone Dulcimers together! Each class will cover different topics: general musical literacy; fret board basics (the notes, linear & box scales, I iv & V chords in D, G & A); locating D & A tunes in AEA tuning; learning tunes written or arranged specifically for baritones; accompanying songs with chord progressions; etc. We will explore answers to your questions as they arise and you’ll end up with more knowledge, more experience, and more music for this most resonant member of the mountain dulcimer family.
Class materials (tab, chord charts, scales, resources) & recordings provided each week.
You will need a baritone dulcimer for this class, preferably with 1.5 & 8.5 frets installed. Feel free to contact me about choosing one. djh@berkeleydulcimergathering.

- Organizer of CLASS: Baritone Dulcimer ExplorationsDJ is a composer, teacher, recording artist, and community music organizer. She teaches mountain dulcimer at The Freight in Berkeley, CA, and in her east bay home. DJ founded the Berkeley Dulcimer Gathering in 2013, produced the first online dulcimer festival in 2020, and co-founded the Berkeley Dulcimer Orchestra in 2014 with Steve Eulberg. Since March 2020 she has participated in 10 global virtual dulcimer festivals and is planning Dulcimoon – a women-led virtual dulcimer festival for 2023. Musically versatile, she performs with her husband, Buffalo, as The DulciMates. DJ has produced 6 recordings and "Indian Summer," a book of her music and original arrangements.
