Class 1: (75 minutes) - 9:15am PST | 10:15am MST | 11:15am | CST 12:15pm EST
Baritone in ADA: chord shapes, scales, and duets/Lorinda Jones -- This workshop will provide an overall view of playing the baritone dulcimer in ADA tuning by reviewing chord shapes, and harmonized scales with both minor and major chords. Because this tuning works well with standard DAD soprano dulcimer, several songs will be presented as baritone/soprano duets with baritone playing both melody and accompaniment parts. Some of the tabbed arrangements will be quick and easy to read through, others will present a challenge. All are nice when played as solo or duet with others.
Lunch Social (75 minutes): 10:30am PST | 11:30am MST | 12:30pm CST | 1:30pm EST
Class 2 (75 minutes): 11:45am PST |12:45am MST |1:45pm CST | 2:45pm EST
Baritone Dulcimer – the Next Step/Joe Collins -- So you've taken the workshops that introduce the baritone dulcimer but want to go further. You want to unlock the great potential of this fine addition to the dulcimer family. This workshop will focus on getting more out of the instrument. We'll discuss song choice, different "voices" of the instrument, how to use them, and how to adjust technique when switching from standard to baritone. AEA & ADA tunings
Class 3 (75 minutes): 1:00pm PST | 2:00pm MST | 3:00pm CST | 4pm EST
Flatpicking Techniques to Play Tunes/Erin Mae -- Strumming a baritone dulcimer when playing melodies can sound muddy, so a good alternative is flatpicking. Learn to play tunes across the strings in AEa (standard) tuning, in the keys of D, G, and A. You'll get a map of the scales in each key, so you can transpose standard dulcimer tunes to the baritone using this method. Plus, we'll practice picking exercises to improve your accuracy. We'll cover four tunes in this lesson to help you immediately apply these strategies to your baritone dulcimer.
Tea time! (30 minutes): 2:15pm | PST 3:15pm MST | 4:15pm CST | 5:15pm EST
Class 4 (75 minutes): 2:45pm PST/ 3:45pm MST | 4:45pm CST | 5:45pm EST
Celtic Music in GDG/Karen Mueller -- Come experience the beauty and energy of Celtic airs, songs, jigs and reels on your baritone in low G tuning. We'll play arrangements for fingerpicking, flatpicking, and song accompaniment for best-loved songs and tunes, as well as more unusual ones, and cover playing techniques chord voicings in G.
Closing Concert (1 hour): 4:30pm PST | 5:30pm MST | 6:30pm CST | 7:30pm EST
